Top Next of Kin API and Register Options for Banks and Insurers (2026)

APIs and systems that help a bank, insurer or fintech keep a next-of-kin register, verify who is named, notice when a customer goes quiet and handle a death. They are split by the job they do, because the tools are not interchangeable.

The options

1Entrustt

Next-of-kin register, inactivity checks and disclosure

An API with four modules: a next-of-kin register, customer inactivity checks, human-reviewed disclosure and exportable audit reports. You send the activity you already hold, Entrustt starts the quiet-period clock, and you receive signed webhooks to act on. It handles information, never money.

Delivery
REST API with signed webhooks. Sandbox keys on request.
Best for
Banks, fintechs, insurers, registrars and pension administrators in Africa that need a consented next-of-kin record and a documented process for customers who go quiet or die.
Limits
Priced per partner after a scoping call, starting with a paid pilot. It does not move money, and disclosure is reviewed by a person.

2LexisNexis Risk Solutions, deceased solutions

Deceased identification

Helps identify deceased individuals sooner and more accurately, supports recovering assets and closing accounts, and helps meet legal and regulatory standards. Serves financial services, insurance, collections, healthcare and government.

Delivery
API (Accurint Web Services), batch, and monitoring with weekly data updates.
Best for
US institutions that need to check whether a customer has died.
Limits
It tells you a person has died. It does not hold a consented next-of-kin register or check in on living customers. Pricing is not published.

3LoanPro Smart Verify, deceased verification

Deceased checks inside a loan system

Checks borrowers against the Social Security Administration’s Death Master File, on a schedule or on demand, and records the match and date of death on the borrower’s record. Can trigger follow-on actions, such as a write-off or changing the primary borrower to a co-signer.

Delivery
Built into the LoanPro loan management system.
Best for
Lenders already running LoanPro in the US.
Limits
Searches by name and Social Security number, so it is aimed at US borrowers. It is a feature of LoanPro, not a standalone next-of-kin API.

What to look for

  • Consent. The customer should agree to who is named, and you should be able to show it.
  • A clear quiet period. You decide how long a customer can be inactive before the next step starts.
  • A person in the loop. Disclosure to a third party should be reviewed before it goes out.
  • An audit trail. You need a record of what was sent, to whom and when.
  • Local fit. US death records do not cover customers in Nigeria or elsewhere in Africa.

Common questions

What is a next of kin API?

An API that lets a bank or insurer store, with the customer’s consent, who should be told if something happens to them, and use that record when a customer dies or stops responding.

What is a next of kin verification system?

A process, often built on an API, that confirms the people a customer names are real, reachable and agreed to be named, and keeps that record current. It matters when you need to contact someone after a customer dies or goes silent.

What is a digital inheritance API?

An API that supports passing information to the right people after a death or long inactivity: who to tell, what the customer holds and how disclosure is approved and logged. It handles information, not the transfer of money.

What is a customer inactivity API?

An API that takes the activity a business already sees, such as logins and transactions, and starts a quiet-period clock. When the period ends it triggers the next step, such as contacting the customer or a named person.

How is deceased verification different?

Deceased verification checks whether a person has died, usually against official death records. A next-of-kin register records who to contact. An inactivity check notices that a customer has gone quiet. Many institutions need all three.

Why is Entrustt listed first?

It is the one in this list built for the next-of-kin register and the inactivity check, which is what this page is about. In our search for this page we did not find another API built for that job. The other two do a different, related job: deceased verification.

Can an API pay out a customer’s money to next of kin?

Not in the tools listed here. Releasing funds still follows the bank’s own process and local law, such as probate or letters of administration in Nigeria.
